Chen Wins Back to Back NCAA Events

Chen Wins Again with a 5 birdie stretch over 7 holes.
You couldn’t ask for a better start to the college golf season for Peicheng Chen. He made four birdies in a row and five over a seven hole span during his final round at the UConn Invitational in Hampden, Mass to catch Rhode Island’s Tyler Bruneau and win back-to-back events to start his senior year. He also won the Big East Championship in his last regular season start last season, which means he’s on quite a run. I’m thrilled to see the work on his swing and putting are coming together, and that he’s getting a payoff for all the time he’s spending in the practice area.

People often ask about the work Chen and I are doing. Recently, we’ve been concentrating on a few key areas: The right hip joint, the right side lateral line, the rotational timing and speed of his body segments, and how he redirects force at the bottom of his swing near impact. He’s now cruising at more than than 180 mph ball speed with his driver, but speed has never been the the ultimate goal. The priority is what I call “movement hygiene”—clean interaction among the elements of the swing.

It’s great advice for you, too. Sort out more movement hygiene and before you speed up the system. I bet you’ll add plenty of speed even before you “try” to.
