Paddy Harrington wins the Senior Open

Senior Open at Sunningdale

Pádraig Harrington captured the Senior Open with a closing 67 at Sunningdale, finishing 16-under-par for a three-shot victory over Justin Leonard and Thomas Bjorn.

The 53-year-old, who eagled the first hole to extend his lead, becomes only the fifth player to win both The Open and the Senior Open. The win adds to his three Major titles and now three senior Majors, following his U.S. Senior Open success last month.

Reflecting on the achievement, Harrington said: “As you get older, it’s about legacy and what you’ve done. Winning the Senior Open adds real validation. It’s very satisfying to extend your career in that way.”
