Seeing the Swing Angles

Over the course of the year, I have been sharing the new information from my presentation at the Golf Magazine Top 100 Summit.

This animation is beyond genius. I asked Dr. Nesbit to come up with a way to show how the angular kinematics of the club are changing their behavior according to the fixed space frame of reference. It is very hard to visually see how the alpha and beta angles change throughout the swing while the club is translating and moving all around in 3D. The projections on the floor show the alpha angular change relative to the impact frame and the beta is projected on the back wall. I'll explain the gamma at another time.

Anyone versed in 3D kinematics and kinetics knows that the instantaneous moments applied to the club are related back to the chosen space fixed frame. The body fixed frame embedded in the mass center has the same angular velocity as the whole body of the club itself.
